The Sonoma Valley Film Society presents events and programs celebrating good food, fine wine, great films, and remarkable richness of life in the Sonoma Valley.  Our calendar of year-round Film Society activities, VIP receptions, film screenings, sneak previews and other Cinema Epicuria events again reaches its zenith with The 10th Annual Sonoma Valley Film Festival (April 11-15, 2007), a lavish extended weekend of film, food, friends and fun – and more wonderful wine-tasting!

The Sonoma Valley Film Society is dedicated to enriching the cultural life, education, health and well-being of the citizens of the Sonoma Valley.   The Society partners with local schools and community-based organizations to put the expressive power of film directly into the hands of hands of our young people.

Together with film industry professionals who visit us from around the world and local film-lovers of all ages, our media literacy, film appreciation and production programs for children and teens explore different world-views, stories, and story-telling techniques, always moving closer to encountering our common humanity.

We share professional tools and training. They give us back nothing less than their natural brilliance, their fearless souls, and their dreams that one day will be our future.

The Sonoma Valley Film Society is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization. For information about becoming a Film Society member, please call 707.933.2600.  Patronage of the Film Society and the Film Festival is tax-deductible!

WORLD'S FIRST FILM FESTIVAL SOMMELIER!

Star Sommelier Christopher Sawyer
to Curate
Gourmet Food
and Wine Pairings at Festival Screenings

What makes The Sonoma Valley Film Festival unlike any other premier film festival in the world?  It's all about paired pleasures: delicious local cuisine, award-winning Sonoma Valley wines and exciting new movies from America and all over the world.

Taking that "Cinema Epicuria" experience to the next level, sommelier-to-the-stars Christopher Sawyer has taken on the mantle as the world's first -- and only -- Official Film Festival Sommelier.

Sawyer, private sommelier to the likes of Gordon Getty and Pixar’s Oscar-winning creative guru John Lasseter, and wine consultant for an impressive roster of private clientele, including Mikael and Raisa Gorbachev, Jerry Brown and George Lucas, has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the wines, wineries and terroir of the Sonoma Valley.

Sawyer has a growing legion of fans among wine lovers and industry insiders around the world, including master winemakers, themselves. “I can’t think of a better choice for sommelier of the Film Festival,” raves Randall Watkins, Winemaker at Moon Mountain Winery.

Jeff Stewart, V.P. Winemaker at Buena Vista Winery, is also a fan. "This is a sommelier with great passion, who can bring together the art of film and the art of winemaking."

A huge film buff, and a master of "wine flights" (wine comparison tastings), Sawyer will be responsible for curating the trademark "Cinema Epicuria" wine and food tastings that precede every single screening at the Film Festival.

“To me, pairing movies with popcorn and soda is not only dull, but a bit passe," says Sawyer, "At the Sonoma Valley Film Festival, holding a glass of wine in your hand gives you a sense of place, culture and history, and can compliment the theme of the movie as well.”
