directed by Francisca Schweitzer & Pablo Solís
produced by Joaquin Mora
written by Francisca Schweitzer & Pablo Solís
starring Francisco Pérez-Bannen, Carolina Castro, SígridAlegría, Luis Gnecco, Iñigo Urrutia

We’ve all heard the dreaded words that usually lead to a breakup: "I just need some time by myself," or "Let’s take a little break; it’ll make us stronger in the end" - and we all know that these are just euphemisms people use when they want to look for guilt-free action elsewhere. This pivotal moment is the starting point of Francisca Schweitzer and Pablo Solís’s first feature film, Time Off, an exploration of love, loneliness and relationships in Santiago, Chile. --Toronto Film Festival In Spanish with English subtitles.

West Coast Premiere
Cuba 2005 80 min.
directed by Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti
produced by Nicolas Duval-Adassovsky
written by Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti & Manolito Rodríguez
Ramírez
starring Malú Tarrau Broche, Jorgito Miló Ávila, Luisa María Jiménez Rodríquez

In a tale akin to Romeo and Juliet, the friendship between two children is threatened by their parents’ differences. Malú is from an upper-class family and her single mother (Larisa Vega Alamar) does not want her to play with Jorgito, as she thinks his background coarse and commonplace. Jorgito’s mother (Luisa María Jiménez Rodríguez), a poor socialist proud of her family’s social standing, places similar restrictions on her son. What neither woman recognizes is the immense strength of the bond between Malú and Jorgito. When the children learn that Malú’s mother is planning to leave Cuba, they decide to travel to the other side of the island to find Malú’s father and persuade him against signing the forms that would allow it. In Spanish with English subtitles.
